Bobby Brown Opens Up About ‘Heartache’ He Experienced With Janet Jackson

It is better to have love and lost than never to have loved at all — sometimes. Bobby Brown was a guest on The Steve Harvey Show, and while discussing his music career, the subject of pop star Janet Jackson came up. “I first met Janet Jackson when I was in New Edition,” explained Brown, “and Michael [Jackson] invited us over to the house.” Brown was familiar with Janet from her role on Good Times but was taken aback seeing her in person. “I had a crush on her for so long from seeing her on Good Times and different things,” said Brown. “It was just surreal that I was in her presence when I did meet her.”

Harvey coaxed Brown to elaborate, which he did not. Harvey might have been alluding to the alleged romance between Jackson and Brown in the ’80s that Brown talks about in his book Every Little Step: My Story. Ultimately, the relationship, whatever it was, seemed to be a case of unrequited love. “There was a lot of heartache though. It was a big heartache for me,” Brown recalled. “I had a real crush on her. I mean I was absolutely head over heels for her.”
