A’ Ibom Warns Detractors who block project Sites with fetish objects to keep off



Tony Okoh || Akwa Ibom State Government has warned those stalling the progress of work in the on-going road projects in the State to steer clear as government will deal decisively with those deliberately frustrating government’s effort to ensure timely completion of the road projects for public use.
The State Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ephraim Inyang Eyen who sounded the warning yesterday while on project inspection around Ikot Ekpene and Eket axis of the state decried the use of some fetish materials by some faceless to block the Uyo-Ikot Ekpene highway thereby slowing down the progress of work in the area.

The Commissioner who warned that the Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration will no longer tolerate such recklessness from anybody advised those with genuine problems to come to his office for dialogue and amicable resolution.
He equally expressed dismay over the delay by property owners who had already collected their cheques from Government consultants to vacate their houses to enable the properties to be demolished to gain right of way, stressing that no excuses will be tolerated for such delays anymore.
According to the commissioner, “my office is open to all those with genuine reasons and claims, and we are ready to dialogue with them for solution to their problems, but it’s unacceptable that in this 21st century people still submit themselves to mundane and fetish things as their gods, look at how they were bundled and burnt and they couldn’t defend themselves”.

The Commissioner said that the Governor is in a hurry to develop the state amidst very tight finances urging the people to rally round the administration in its bid to turn around the fortunes of the state.
Mr. Ephraim Inyang Eyen Stated that Government decision to ensure speedy development is totally and will not allow any form of distraction at this level. “We are paying genuine property owners to make way for development and even those who want to frustrate Government’s effort by turning down their cheques will not succeed because we will continue the job in the overriding public interest”.

On the areas affected by flood along Ikot Ekpene – Uyo highway, the Commissioner assured the affected communities of Government plans to increase the size of the catchment pit to ensure there is no backflow of water after rain.
